| It is permissible to display the American Flag on the same pole as another flag; however the American flag must ALWAYS be displayed above any other. Offical etiquette allows more than one flag to be displayed on the same pole but it is not recommended. On a personal note, I do agree that no other flag, especially one not of a government nature, should be displayed form the same pole. There are times when space is so limited that in order to show all symbols, more than one flag is placed on the same staff but I can not beleive that is the case when it comes to a sporting event. In any venue where there is room for more than one staff, the American flag should out of simple courtesy, let alone pride and respect, should be displayed separately, lower and to the American Flag's left.

The American flag may be flown on the same halyard as other flags, however the American flag should always be flown above all others when in the United States, its territories or possessions. If on separate staffs, the American flag should always be hoisted first and lowered last. If the sports team flag seems disrespectful to you, then it probably is, even though it meets the U.S. Flag Code. My personal opinion on this one is: do what your heart tells you and find another place to display your favorite team's colors.

| We fly two flags on one pole with the U.S. flag at the top and the state flag below it. The question that is being debated is this--how much vertical space should there be between the U.S. flag and the state flag--some say the state flag should be directly below the U.S. flag; others say there is supposed to be at least 12 inches between the two. I've looked at several web sites that give flag etiquette, but cannot find the answer to this one. Can you or anyone help or lead me to a website that would help? Thanks.
