Default 45 Star American Flag (in a star patten)

Has anyone seen a flag simular to the flag I have attached? This flag was recently pasted on to me from my mother and a friend informed me that it may have some value? Eash star looks to have been hand sown. A few small holes in the flag.

45 star flags in the Great Star pattern are relatively rare. In my opinion, if that flag is from the 1895-1908 era it would be worth upwards of $1,000 on eBay and double that or more when framed and offered through an antiques dealer. Printed 45's with the stars in a circle/global pattern sell for $400 to $800 on eBay and don't come up that often any more, so the Great Star would easily excceed that dollar value.

The flag should be examined by an expert in flag textiles (most run-of-the-mill textile experts or antique dealers have no experience with wool bunting or the history of flagmaking, so you need to look for a genuine expert.) One commercial expert is Jeff Bridgman. See his website at Jeff Bridgman American Antiques and Antique American Flags

Hi, Grayhound !

Welcome to the USA-Flag-Site Forums !

After looking at the two very small photos of your 45 Star Flag, it looks to me like your Flag is a modern day replica. The Red & Blue colors look a little TOO vivid and the White stars and header look a little TOO white. I am NO expert, but that's what the Flag in the photos looks like to me.

Would it be possible to provide a few larger-sized "close-up" photos of your Flag? Such as a grommet and a portion of the header, one or two stars, and maybe the "fly" end of the Flag! Also, what size is your Flag and what materials is it made out of?

Thank You for bringing your Flag-related question to our Forums!

Nick and Robin - Thanks for your post. I'm not very knowledgeable of materials but the flag looks authentic. The flag has a patent on the edge, Aug 22, 189? (can't make out last digit) by W.N. Paulson. There is come discolorization and holes. I would post larger pics but the site restricts me from posting them.

Nick, I will try to get in touch with Jeff Bridgman in the next few weeks. Thx!

I forgot to mention that the flag is 4' H X 5' W.
