Default 48 star Flag

I own a 48 star flag. Markings on the flag indicate it was produced (and sadly used) in 1945. If memory serves, it is 9x12 and was (or may have been) used as a casket cover.
About 20 yrs ago, I found it at an antique store and bought it (for a price that was far less than its true value).
Since then, I haven't lived in an area that allows me to display this flag.
I don't know what to do with it. I love it. I cherish it. But it does no good in my dresser drawer (in its traditional triangle fold).
When purchased, it had some water damage (stains) but its edges are clean, almost prestine. I had considered dry cleaning, but I feared it may cause other damage. Even still, I can't display it.
I can't bear to sell it. I'd rather give it away to a patriot (no, not a NE football fan, unless he/she is a patriot . . . oh, you know what I mean).
September is a tough month for me.
Any takers? Any suggestions?

The 48-star Flag should be given to a WWII or Korean War Veterans group for use in parades - in period uniform - or proper historical display.

Or take it to an American Legion Hall or a Boy Scout troop for proper retirement .

Unless you want to display it honorably in your home.

y'all take care

Hello Ikabar,
I may the the solution to your dilemma. I am a flag collector from Massachusetts (now living in Maryland) so I am a patriot as well as a Patriot's fan (Regrettably they lost to the Giants last night )

If you want to see the extent of my flag collection, please see:
Collection: Antique American Flags

I would be honored to accept your flag. Rest assured, it will NOT end up on eBay.

By the way, I have 700 48-star flags that a Baltimore flagmaker could not GIVEAWAY to local veteran's groups. The had no interest in them

Please send me a private contact and we can exchange info, if you wish.

Hi, Nick !

What the heck is "wrong" with the Maryland-based Veterans' groups that they would say "NO" to such a generous (and patriotic!) offer ???

If they were anything like the Veterans' groups here in Oregon (especially the Albany American Legion Post that had their Post building burnt to the ground by an arsonist on the 4th of July!), you'd think they would accept them to use as "volunteer recognition" gifts, or to say "Thank You" to some of their donors, or to sell in order to raise money to benefit Veterans, or just to use as a "mass Flag flying display" on patriotic holidays !!!

SHEESH !!!

Robin,
The date was around 1985, most were stick flags 12x18 inches, and there were a few dozen 49 star flags as well. The Baltimore flagmaker certainly would have been able to sell these flags during the first Gulf War, but during the 80's we were still in a lull as far as patriotism goes.

Ah...... I see.

How sad that a short 25 years ago not even localized Veterans groups could muster enough patriotism to say, "YES!", to such a generous offer.
