    Default 48 star flag

    Hi there,
My father was an American Marine in WWII.
In 2006 I received his discharge papers.
He was in the Army Human Resources Command ( I do not understand what this was) and it states that he worked on small ships and it shows the numbers of the boats.
Dad bought home an American 48 star flag, it is very wind blown, but originally beautifull. I am unsure what I should do with it, it seems such a shame to have it stored for all these years. It has numbers on the side, 2.37 x 4.5, could someone please explain what this means.
My father never spoke about the war to me, and sadly I know very little about what he did.
I am trying to find information about my dads time in the marines.
I am hoping that someone could direct me to find these answers.
    thx Kathy

    Hi Kathy,
I am really thankful for men like your father and the service they gave to our country. To get to your question about the flag, the numbers you referred to are the size of the flag in feet and inches. The government has a different system of sizing flags that are made especially for them. See the attached chart. Have you tried to Google to locate his military records? For example type in: Military Records for World War 2 veterans and see what comes up.
    Good luck!
    Cheers,
    Mike

    All,

I've taken the liberty of moving this thread to the "Flag Identification and Collecting" section, since that better describes its content.
