    Default 5X8 flag/revolving truck/24' pole/pics

Today was the day I got it all done, well almost. It was almost 90 degrees and the heat wore me out along with yardwork. And a sunburn to go with it lol. The pole was made out of 1.5 inch galvanized electrical metal conduit. It is bracketed to the roof overhang of the house for support. That allowed the use of smaller pipe and digging a mid sized hole to fill with concrete, rather than a HUGE hole. The revolving truck was a good Ebay find at $23 including shipping. The flag is a nylon 5X8' Texas.

60 lbs of concrete support this smaller pipe. The flagpole fits over it and is connected with 2 screws. Tomorrow I'll fill it in with dirt.

Revolving truck and spearhead ornament I made on a lathe out of aluminum. This one is much larger than the othe one I made a couple of months ago. The pipe is an old piece just to support it for painting. The ornament was painted with Rust Oleum spray paint and primer in one-metallic gold. The paint cost much less than having it powdercoated. The previous owner of the revolving truck thought it would look good in black. I disagree, but did not feel like stripping the paint off.

The pipe was quite a bit smaller than the truck, so I made a sleeve out of aluminum to fill the gap. Then I drilled 3 holes so the set screws would grab the pipe. And the angle "smooths out" the transition.

Revolving truck is not a complete cure, but it helps. The best thing is the pulley almost always point the same direction as the flag. That makes for better looking photos.

Here's the big flag. It looked much larger on the living room floor than it does up in the air. More photos tomorrow.

I put dirt over the concrete and smoothed it out.

I wrapped a piece of bicycle tube around the pole so the bracket wouldn't wear the galvanized coating off and rust. But the tube is turning the halyard black, so I need to do something about that.

    Flying over the house.
