    Default 9/11 Flag Pics

September 11, 2009. It was completely dry outside when my wife and I realized that rain was approaching from the northeast (which NEVER happens here). This rainbow formed in the last bit of sunlight right before sunset.

The few flags that I did notice today (including my neighbor's and at my bank) were not flying at half staff.

    Hi, MechD !

Welcome to the USA-Flag-Site Forums !

Since your posting is here in the "American Flag Pictures" Forum, do you have any pictures of any of those Flags on 9/11 ???

    Coooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool ! ! !

For quite some time I've advocated the use of "mourning ribbons" (or "streamers") for when people can't "half-staff" their "home set" (porch set) Flags. Your picture is one of the very few times over the past couple of decades that I've seen someone use one.

I know that the use of "mourning ribbons" isn't officially mentioned in the "Flag Code", but I still think that their use is a time-honored tradition that should be encouraged for folks with "static" (immoveable) Flags.

And, yes, for the record, I DID notice in your "Rainbow Flag" picture that your neighbor's Flag was NOT at half-staff (and "ribbon-less", too!) !!!

I have been thinking about getting a bunch of mourning ribbons (in several sizes) and handing them out to my friends and neighbors along with a few zip ties, mounting option instructions, and a list of half-staff dates. I think this should ALWAYS be included with every stationary flag and pole set sold.

By the way, my mounting bracket allows me to adjust the angle of my pole. I thought that lowering the pole angle was the standard method, but it seems like the pole would have to be at a drastic negative angle to indicate its half-staff status. (Is this a valid method?) Since my bracket is not mounted high enough, I am glad I found this ribbon alternative. It seems to me to be more visually distinct. I have yet to see a wall mounted or vertically mounted flag with a mourning ribbon or banner.

    nice flag pic

That too is one of only a couple of images I've seen of people using the mourning ribbon.

As I live in the UK it's kinda hard for me to come over and spot more..
