I'm not sure but I think this Flag might be up for auction on eBay RIGHT NOW !!!

Since I'm not in the market for "old" Flags, I don't pay a whole lot of attention to those types of auctions. BUT..... I do remember the 48 Star Flag that had "off-set" rows of Stars and a "back story" about being "liberated" from the Japanese in 1945.

    I'll go look right now!

    SORRY !

I must have been mistaken. Although I could NOT find the Flag I "THOUGHT" I saw on eBay, I've remembered a little bit more of the "back story" of the flag that I saw SOMEWHERE.

The Flag I saw (completely different from the one in the newspaper article shown in this thread), IF I remember correctly, had 48 Stars in off-setting rows in the Union. It MIGHT have had only 45 instead of 48 but I didn't count them. I just remember thinking that it was "odd" that the Stars were in off-setting rows. There was (is) Japanese characters written on the canvas header (hoist) identifying the Japanese soldier and his unit. I believe that the Flag was "liberated" by a member of the U.S. Occupation Army shortly after VJ Day.

    Sorry for the mix-up!

NOW I wish that I could remember WHERE I saw the story and pictures of the Flag I saw and mixed up with this one !!!

Not a problem Robin. If you find the story please post it as it sounds very interesting.

    .

I just posted a reply here that I'd found (FINALLY!) the U.S. Flag captured in The Philippines (Manila) by the Japanese. It WAS on eBay but it's listing had ended. There are 11 (eleven) pictures included in the listing.

Unfortunately, my reply was grabbed by the Spam Checker Gramlin for "review".

SO......... I'll Copy/Paste the Flag's eBay text and try to include a link to it's eBay page. If the Gremlin grabs THIS entry, then I'll just re-do it without the link!

    HERE GOES . . . . .

    Hi, Mike !

Well, you could always send the Seller a message through eBay and ask him/her/them if they'll be re-listing the Flag, and, if so, when and for how much.

I'm just glad I found it again! Driving me nuts!
