| Hi, Brenda ! THANX for the update ! I would think that there is some kind of a BLACK (or dark colored), light weight, rayon or polyester material out there somewhere that would work as a light "blocker". I would suggest a 3x5' sheet of "mylar", but I'm pretty sure that it would NOT last for a whole day of Flag waving up the pole and in the wind ! Oh, well... Keep us posted ! Robin Hickman PS. GOOD LUCK with your Kitchen re-modeling !!!

| Gen mom, et al, There are a lot of things going on in our United States that I don't care for either, and its not just political. However, having served in two branches of the military (Navy/Army), I know that my service not only guaranteed my freedoms, but those of other Americans who may or may not have the same morals, beliefs, values, etc. that my family, friends and myself have. I'm sure that not every American who has ever walked upon the soil of our great country felt the same whenever they looked upon the stars and stripes. Rich and poor, slave and free, native and immigrant all had different thoughts about what the flag represented to them. I fly MY flag because I love to see it on the pole outside my door. I have one on my living room wall that has been (literally) around the world (at a height of 250 mi.) on a shuttle. It has also been to some historic ships and other places. Other flags I have or have given to others have been to places of note or personal importance. MY flags reflect my values, morals, beliefs, etc., but I'm the only one who can "see" those things. To anyone else, it reflects whatever they "see". If I'm asked, I tell the person what MY flag represents - the good things in America - not the bad things or evil things. I have a First Navy Jack (striped DON'T TREAD ON ME) flag that I like to look at occasionally, because it represents our forefathers courage to start a new country. I made a BONNIE BLUE because it too represents independence and since it was never an "official" flag of the Confederacy, I don't feel bad about offending someone with it, like would happen with any of the Rebel flags. There are lots of historic flags you could make or purchase to make a statement, but most of those statements are lost on the majority of the viewing public. History means nothing to most people. I fly MY flag because I like it. The familiar red, white and blue makes me feel good whenever I see it. I look at every US flag in town when I go by them. I like to see other homes with the flag out front too. They just make the place look better. I remember right after 9/11 nearly every store and every house had some kind of flag or numerous flags out. Not any more though. Think "politics" may have something to do with that? Remember before the election that a big hullaballoo was made about Obama not wearing a flag lapel pin? Now he does. I doubt his "politics" and core beliefs have changed, but he sure looks better with that flag pin on now.
