Default America is not the ONLY country

Hi guys,

I'm typing from the United Kingdom, AKA Great Britian. It is situated about 3,000 miles east of the east coast of America, and is straight over the atlantic ocean, just above France but West of Europe.

I'm going to be blunt here guys. So many Americans havent got a clue about the outside world, so I thought I would share some stuff with you.

Here in England we use MILES AN HOUR not KILOMETERS. We also use POUNDS not EUROS. We also dont class 50 year old building as old. We have some buildings here that are thousands of years old, and my local pub (bar) dates back to 1602. It IS possible to make a cheap, reliable and small car. My sister once had a car that was LESS than one litre engine capacity and did a good 90mph, not bad for a tiny car.

Burgers and Hotdogs are a German delicacy, not an American one, and Apple Pie originates from England, not America. Also, Wales and Scotland are the UK and are seperate countries to England.

Jappanese cars are also very reliable, cheap cars that need very little attention, so you dont just HAVE to buy American cars.

Technically we one world war one and two, because we fought from the start .

Our television doesnt have every swear word bleeped out every five minuites and nudity blurred out in a very annoying manor (that is after 9pm).

We dont DRIVE five minuites down the road, and Britian isnt like you make it out to be, we dont all wear stupid hats, go to bed at 9 and be as well behaved as you make out, this isnt Victorian times anymore!

We dont also speak like really posh liek you guys think! Our beer is stronger, with more alcohol, and can be legally drunk from 18, (a small amount at 5 years old is allowed int he home), but most drink at a younger age (i first got drunk at 14), sex is allowed from 16 (most have it before), ciggarettes used to be 16 but are now 18 and driving is 17.

We also dont stand outside and look at our flag! Personally I dont attend church, and neither do most Brits. I haven't been for years!

The French arent actually bad people, they make good foods, wines and cheeses and the cheese isnt plastic rubber cheese. Mustard is also spicy and grainy, not runny and sweet. Sugar is brown not white Ok ok im just nit picking now, I just wanted to share some stuff, Cheers for now!

Oh and lastly $3 a Gallon is unbeleiveably cheap!!!!!

we pay up to $10 (£5) a Gallon! Pying over £1 a litre (1Gal =4.5 Litres)

Yeah, yeah, we know all about you guys. You're the ones that we clobbered at Saratoga and Yorktown, and that shot off all those bombs that were bursting in air. You drink warm beer, drive on the wrong side of the road and don't know that a "lift" is really an "elevator."

Seriously, welcome to the forum! Where in the UK are you located?

Also, Wales and Scotland are the UK and are seperate countries to England.

This is true, of course. However, I've noticed that there's always been a tendency, even among Britons, to say "England" when one means "United Kingdom." There's a famous 19th century British poem about "The Meteor Flag of England" that obviously refers to the union flag rather than the St. George's cross.

Regards,

Peter Ansoff

Well warm Beer but cold lager which is simmilar to American beer, but much stronger. The Ale is drunk warm.

We also drive FASTER on the correct side of the road (some of our roads predate America)!

Ive not heard that poem. When is St Georges day anyway?

That's not something to brag about, it's a sign of the decline of morality, just like bad language and nudity on your TV's sponsored by your government.

Then You wonder why you don't stand outside and stare at your flag.

Don't get US Americans wrong either, even though we are seeing the same decline in morality and financial problems, the majority of Americans still Want a Moral and Just lifestyle, and a majority of us still go to church.

I do beleive in God, i jsut dont beleive in preaching. What do you expect? Our country went down too in the Thatcher days. We used to be a prime producer.

I'm not highly patriotic. I prefer Boeing over Airbus but of the two 4x4s I prefer Land Rover over Jeep (U.S. military is buying LR over Hummer). Thats immaterial though. America has limited history, and it is also in hot water

firstly - please dont generalize that Americans dont know where our country is - ours is one of the most indentifiable countries there is!

this is most often not their fault - their media does not tell them much and as far as i'm aware they have enough of their own country to learn about at school - they are not so close to other countries as we are becaue the USA is so massive - where as we have Europe on our front door step

the USA use miles per hour aswell as we do - our countries measurements are all over the place because they tried to change them but only have done half the job - and now as a consequence we are having to learn both sets of measurements!
they wanted us to work in grams and kilograms- which also should mean we work in metres and kilometres - which i was taught these methods at school - however the government that implemented this wont change out roadsigns so that we can use kilometres on the road! and many of our older ctizens use inches and feet - and i can use either myself because of my work with flags
they think changing our currency to the euro will make us lose out identity - NONSENCE - it would make life easier for people that raveloften to europe and for europeans coming here
yep - Americans do have big cars
its gonna take alot to make them change their ways on that one- but still the UK needs to sort out its public transport systems and make them better to make people leave their cars at home [i myself cannot drive due to my short sightedness - whch is cool really cos i get a free bus pass and dont have to pay anything for gas!]

Americans have made their own way of having burgers - the same goes for pizza - and both of these Britons eat plenty of!
you forgot northern ireland off that list

and theres a heck of alot of water between the 2 countres - its easier to have them made in the USA - and this is what alot of Americans pride themselves on - by having things that are made in their own country

i agree to that - especially on the flag front - china makes absolutley dire quality flags! they are only good for indoor display away from sunlight

thats true - but that works both ways round - i have noted more than one occasion where you have generalized and stereotyped Americans
i think that some stereotyping is OK - as long as its not harmful and done in a funny manner - this will continue because our countries share many similarities - therefore we will pick out eahcothers differences and stereoype them

our accents are different to those of the USA - to an American any brit will sound like that to them p- dont forget their coun try is alot bigger than our s is
yep our beer is definatly stronger - but is more alcohol a good thing? hmmm
legal age shuld be 21 and same goes for smoking - and the Americans have a good incentive for young people itching to get cars- that they CAN leave school at 16 - but if they do then they may not start learning to drive till 17 - if they stay on at school then they may start driving at 16
- i beliieve such an incentive should be started here too

well we SHOULD stand outside and look at our flag! we should be proud of who we are and see that when we see our colors flying
i am a collector of American flags and items with it on - an my American flags greatly outnumber my British ones but i have no outdoor facility to fly any of my flags

lol yea - it is slightly annoying to have Americans complain about their gas prices when ours are so much more expensive
- dont forget though that the avergae American wage per hour is about $5- £2 5o - this is a half of what we get so taken into consideration there is much more a balance than at 1st glance
but our government like to tax us alot on these necessary things such as fuel
and i've no idea where that money goes !

Trust me, I used to ALWAYS stick up for America but I have slowly lost pride in them. I know they use MPH, I said that because so many Americans assumed we used KPH.

Dont get me wrong, I'm still fascinated in the place. Its just a lot of things piss me off about them.

I also think the constitution should be changed around the gun law, that REALLY needs to change.

Also I big time disagree with the "stealing" of the country from the red indians

EDIT: I also dont like the fact EVERYTHING is an order "STRICTLY NO U-TURNS" "STRICTLY NO RIGHT TURNS" (which we did anyway because the sign tempted us) "DO NOT ENTER", "YOU HAVE VIOLATED MY MOTHER", why cant they hint like us, rather than order.

Theres signs for everything "2 elderly people in area", and on that note they screw everything nice they have by filling it with concrete and putting a KFC on it and an advice bureau.

Thats another thing, KFC, God awful place! Intensivley farmed battery chickens. I even phoned up an eatery in America and they didnt know what "Free Range" was, when I explained it was chickens that werent couped up 30,000 to a shed crapping on each others heads, they still didnt know.

Infact I will ONLY eat Free Range birds.

with gun law - alot of Americans that have guns use them responsaby and for the purpose of their hunting seasons - which are needed to keep the population of certain animals down for the good of the food chain and the environment
why should these responsable americans give up their guns for the sake of some people that choose to use them as weapons? thats not very fair now is it?
