"American Anthem" : Song From Ken Burns' PBS-TV Documentary, "The War" (Sung By Norah Jones).
GREETINGS !!!
The seven (7) episodes of Ken Burns' World War II documentary, "The War", aired on PBS television stations across the USA between September 23rd and October 2nd, 2007.
Almost all of the songs used in the film were of "the period". That is to say, they were of the day & age (contemporary to) of "The War". One of them, however, was not.
That song was, "American Anthem".
The words & music of "American Anthem" were written by Gene Scheer and it was sung by Norah Jones.
Below are two links to videos of "American Anthem", and a copy of the lyrics. One of the videos is on MSN.com, and it is preceded by a 30 second commercial. The second is on YouTube, and it was put together as a Veterans' Day Tribute. Below the two video links are the Lyrics to "American Anthem".

"American Anthem"
{ Music & Lyrics By GENE SCHEER }
All we've been given by those who came before
The dream of a nation where freedom would endure
The work and prayers of centuries have brought us to this day
What shall be our legacy? What will our children say?
Let them say of me I was one who believed
In sharing the blessings I received.
Let me know in my heart when my days are through
America, America, I gave my best to you.
Each generation from the plains to distant shore
With the gifts they were given were determined to leave more.
Battles fought together, acts of conscience fought alone:
These are the seeds from which America has grown.
Let them say of me I was one who believed
In sharing the blessings that I received.
Let me know in my heart when my days are through
America, America, I gave my best to you.
[ Short Instrumental Break ]
For those who think they have nothing to share,
Who fear in their hearts there is no hero there.
Know each quiet act of dignity is that which fortifies
The soul of a nation that will never die.
Let them say of me I was one who believed
In sharing the blessings I received.
Let me know in my heart when my days are through
America, America, I gave my best to you.
America, [America] I gave my best to you.
I guess my work here is done. It's late and I'm tired. So Good Night or Good Morning, whatever the case may be !!!
