This has been tangentially addressed elsewhere on the forum but I'm looking for clarification. My daughter's soccer team is designing a sweatshirt which has an embroidered American flag on the left shoulder. Everything I've read here and elsewhere, including the US Code, implies that this is an inappropriate display of the flag. There are those on this non-school team who have argued that their children’s' school team uniforms have an American flag patch. Indeed I look online and there are dozens of sports uniform apparel companies selling American flag patches specifically for sports uniforms.

Would someone please offer me some clarification?

Yep! You're going to find many places selling flag embems. It's a case of the almighty dollar, and how many they can grab. Remember when you could'nt buy a US Flag right after 911? Heck, you CAN buy American Flag paper cups, napkins, paper plates, shirts, hats and just about every thing else. But just because you can buy it dosen't mean it's correct. You can buy a radar detector anywhere, but the're illegal! Stick to your guns. Make a copy of the US Flag Code and give it to the people who want thier kids to wear the flag. WHat kind of message are these parents sending to thier kids?
