| Hello Greengo. How long have you been flying flags? What I want to know from an experienced flag flyer is what deteriorates first - the fly corners or the colors of the fabric? In other words, does your flag tatter before the red turns to pink, or does the color fade out before the fabric wears out? When flags were made of natural fibers it was common practice to cut off the tattered fly end of the stripes and sew a new hem (that's one of the reasons that naval flags are twice, or nearly twice, as long as they are wide - you can re-hem them a number of times.) This tells me that the dyes must have been pretty color fast to allow that much use. Or was it just the maritme environment that beat the heck out of the flag much more quickly than shore-side flags? Nick

| Hey Nick, I have been flying flags sense the late 60's. I have had a flagpole in my yard sense 1976. I started out with Annin cloth flags I always bought the best ones. I had a 50 star flag a few days after they came out. I still have that flag. It is hanging on my wall. I used that flag on my first flagpole in 1976. I am not sure when I started using nylon flags. I always used Annin's Nyl-Glo. I fly my flags about 200 days a year. I take them in at the first sign of rain, and don't fly if the wind excedes 25mph. I also fly only in daylight. I get about 2 years of life out of a flag. The damage I get is the sides split from the ends. I have several flags that I have sewn. As for color fade, my old flags have very little color loss. Like I said, "I take care of my flags"!!! I have never bought "cheap" flags. I just hope I get the same service from my new Valley Forge Flags. Fly em' high!!!

| Dumb question about my new Annin 3'x5' American flag. The new flag says "100% Nylon". It is is embroidered stars & sewn strips. I would like to know if it the Nyl-Glo flag. I can not find this flag on Annin's site. It is "not" marked Nyl-Glo. I sent an e-mail to Annin 4 days ago. They have not answered. I know that this is a dumb question, but I would like to know. My new flag's model #2450. Fly em' high!!! Greengo

| . Hi, Greengo ! QUOTE : "My new flag's model #2450." I just checked my Annin & Co. 2009 catalog, and I didn't find item #002450 on the NylGlo page. I found the following item numbers (in bold) : 002400 - NylGlo 20'x30' 002410 - NylGlo 20'x38' 002415 - NylGlo 30'x50' 002420 - NylGlo 2'x3' 002428 - NylGlo 30'x60' 002430 002440 - NylGlo 2.5'x4' 002460 - NylGlo 3'x5' 002450 002470 - SunGlo 8"x12" 002480 - SunGlo 12"x18" 002490 Could you have mis-read the number? such as mistaking the item number "002460" (the 3'x5' Flag) as "002450" ??? Sorry that I couldn't have been of more help ! Robin .

| . GREETINGS !!! I think that I have "solved" the mystery of the Annin & Co. 3'x5' Nylon U.S. Flag, stock number "#002450". I believe that the "#002450" is a "replacement" Flag for home (or porch) flag sets, and that it is a slightly modified Nyl-Glo Flag ("#002460"). Furthermore, I believe that the full, complete, and correct Annin stock number is "#002450R" and NOT "#002450", as is shown on the packaging. The "R" added at the end indicates that it is a "Replacement Flag". I got one of the "Replacement Flags" and compared it to a 3'x5' Nyl-Glo U.S. flag that I own. While the materials, construction, and the look and feel of the two Flags is VERY similar, the main differences are in the packaging and in the header & grommets. The "Nyl-Glo Flag" ("#002460") comes in a sturdy, full color cardboard box, complete with instructions for the care and cleaning of the Flag, plus a "Flag Etiquette" brochure. The "Replacement Flag" ("#002450") comes in a plastic bag with a couple of inserts. The Nyl-Glo Flag's header is wider and heavier and has "Nyl-Glo" printed on it. The Replacement Flag's header is a little narrower and lighter and it has "100% Nylon" printed on it. The Nyl-Glo Flag has heavy-duty, size #2 grommets, and the Replacement Flag has the smaller Size #1 grommets. The Nyl-Glo line of flags is pretty much the "workhorse" of Annin's Flags. They are meant to be flown from stand-alone flagpoles that are anywhere from 15 to 50 feet tall. There is a lot more wind, weather, and stress at the top of a 30 foot flagpole than there is at the end of a 6-foot pole mounted on the front of a house. So it makes sense that a house flag set "replacement" flag would be made a little less "sturdy" that a Nyl-Glo Flag. When I "Googled" the search terms "Annin" and "002450" (w/o the quotation marks) there was one, and only one, page returned. That page was THIS PAGE that you are reading right now! When I "Googled" the search terms "Annin" and "002450R" (w/o the quotation marks) approximately 750 pages were returned. I don't know about ALL 750 of them, but the first 100 or so ALL seemed to do with the Annin 3'x5' Nylon REPLACEMENT U.S. Flag !!! I have NOT contacted anyone at Annin & Company to ask them about my "theory", so I have no real, solid "proof" that I've solved the "mystery" that was presented earlier in this thread. BTW : The two photos that "popped up" the most in the Google search were these two : So, there you have it. It is what it is. Robin Hickman Eugene, Oregon, USA .

| Thanks Robin, Makes sense to me. My flag came in the package with the hanger. I got it at Wal-Mart. At least one thing, it's an Annin!!! P.S. It must be a good flag, I have been flying it most of the Winter and it still looks like it did when it came out of the box!!! And this has been a mother of a Winter. Thanks for the info. Greengo

| . Hi, GreenGo ! Earlier in this thread you wrote that you were hoping to get a 35-Star, "Great Star" Flag to add to your collection. You also said that the ones you'd found were out of your price range, even the ones you found on eBay. Which prompted me to go looking for some of them on eBay myself. I found one store (usflags11) who has one up for auction (Starting Bid = $39.00) and one set up for "Buy It Now" ($49.00). BUT . . . . . . There was one store (America Welcome The World) that has TWO of them and their "Buy It Now" price is $9.99, and shipping is FREE! The main differences between the two Sellers' Flags is that the more expensive ones are sewn & embroidered cotton Flags , and the cheaper ones are printed polyester. Anyway, here are the links : $9.99 : http://cgi.ebay.com/35-Stars-Great-Star-Old-Glory-1863-US-Historic-3x5-Flag_W0QQitemZ220402192561QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_De faultDomain_0?hash=item3350fe90b1 $39.99 : http://cgi.ebay.com/COTTON-Great-Star-American-Civil-War-Flag-of-35-Stars_W0QQitemZ370346740809QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_D efaultDomain_0?hash=item563a62cc49 I also found some at the NEW website for the Ruffin Flag Company : http://www.ruffinflagcompany.net/ I didn't search the ENTIRE site, but I did find a 35-Star "Great Star" Flag (printed polyester) HERE : http://www.ruffinflagcompany.net/productinfo.aspx?productid=835290 Anyway, Greengo, Good luck on finding what you've been looking for !!! Robin .
