    Hi, welcome!

At a public event is it okay to forego the Star Spangled Banner and just sing God Bless America?

Well, it depends on the event, of course. Military regulations state that the national anthem is supposed to be played in certain ceremonial situations, but otherwise it's really up to the sponsoring organization.
