    Default Disposing of Flags

Thanks for mentioning this, Manuelita. There are actually many community organizations that may dispose of flags during regular ceremonies. The Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, American Legion and maybe even the local Veterans of Foreign Wars may have regular ceremonies for retiring and disposing of old flags.

Check with your local scout troops or legion posts for more information on when they have retirement ceremonies.

The American Legion has a great ceremony for disposing of flags, which you can read about on their website.

If you don't want to dispose of your own unserviceable flags, or you don't know how, giving your flags to one of these organizations is a wonderful idea, especially when it can be used to teach children proper respect for the flag.
