    Default Burial flag question

My father in law passed away about 6 years ago, and his burial flag was presented to my husband,as it was his wish because my husband was (and still is) active duty military. My husband has treasured this memento from his father over the past years. However, we recently had a house fire and lost everything that we own, including the flag. This is the one item of loss that was most devestating as everything else is replaceable... which leads me to my question. Is there anyway for a veteran to have another flag dedicated in their honor? Any help is welcome, thanks!

From the Department of Veteran Affairs website:

The law allows us to issue one flag for a Veteran's funeral. We cannot replace it if it is lost, destroyed, or stolen. However, some Veterans' organizations or other community groups may be able to help you get another flag.

Perhaps you father in law belonged to a local Veteran's group.....

    Hello, Jolieivy.

    Welcome to the USA-Flag-Site Forums.

I am sorry for your losses.

PRGringo (Steve) is correct: only one "official" burial Flag per veteran. I agree with his idea of contacting one of the local "chapters" or "posts" of a Veterans group such as the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), the American Legion, Vietnam Veterans of America, Patriot Riders, etc.

Or, perhaps the family can get together and get a 5x9.5 foot Flag and a nice "Shadow Box" to display it in?

    Good Luck with everything !!!
