Can a non-American sing the National Anthem at an event?
We Americans are privileged to have the most beautiful National Anthem in the world. Every time I hear it sung, or sing it myself, I get tears in my eyes and am filled with pride. Can a non-American sing the National Anthem at a public event? Brace for the stupid reason I am asking this: I have heard that Susan Boyle will be part of the July 4th Celebrations in DC. Of course, I will be happy to hear her sing anything. However, her voice is just perfect - the range, the power, the emotion - to sing this magnificent song, and I think it would be an unforgettable moment. I am guessing it is against protocol, but am asking just the same. Thank you.

I can't imagine any reason why not. I attended a July 14th celebration in France some years ago, and I sang "La Marseillaise" along with everyone else!

Of course, we would not want to dwell on who fired those bombs that were bursting in air . . . (-;
