Well now before this gets too political I would like to say that I'm not being derogatory towards Chinese products in general except that there have been a few problems with things made there and they have been mentioned here already.These problems have not helped the economic realtions between our two countries very much but I have not heard where the problems were instigated on purpose either.
However these two incidents have awakened a sense of caution in the American people that is causing a shift to buying American wherever possible particularly in light of the present economic situation. We do tend to support ourselves when things get tough.
People come up to my flag stand and pick up a flag and look all over it until they spot the "Made In America" tag that is present on all flags made in this country. They may buy the flag or not but they always remark "At least it's not made in China". Many actually thank me for not selling foreign products so there is a huge "buy American" effort going on right now and I for one hope it continues.
As for your Chinese flagpoles I have recently found some for sale here for only $35. This is a 16 foot telescoping flagpole made from light weight aluminum and employs the twist lock system for holding the sections of the pole in place when it's raised. I bought one to see how it was made and although I feel it's too light weight it appears to be well made. How long it will last remains to be seen.
I am using it to fly sample flags when my stand is open on weekends so it will be going up and down several times a week. It is not for sale. It's American counterpart is of much heavier construction with a spring pin locking mechanism that will no doubt be much longer lasting and of course costs five times as much. But it's made in America and I sell a lot of them.
So to nip this thing in the bud I apologize for taking this thread into a political arena and it won't happen again. May all our flags stay "blowing in the wind",a peaceful wind. Pete
