City Flags - Cincinnati, OH
Came home tonight to disover a box on my doorstep. Inside the box was my City Flag. Yes, I'm coming at you from Cincinnati, OH - and here is our flag:

Cincinnati Flag by Coasterville, on Flickr
This particular example is a 3'x5' Nylon flag, the header is strong, quad sticthing on fly end, and it bears the FMAA seal. The outer ring of the seal that has the flagmakers name reads "Americas Flag Company". Also of interest, I was told that since there isn't exactly a huge demand for Cincinnati flags they are made to order. According to the packaging, my flag was made on 6/14/11 - a flag made on Flag Day, how appropriate!
A quick shout to CVS Wholesale Flags for the hookup. They definitely offered a favorable price next to other people I contacted about it.

What is that on top of the red "C"?, a bow?

Re: City Flags - Cincinnati, OH
You know they would have still have a good looking flag without all the items inside the "C". I mean you can't even see what they are unless you are really close to the flag.

Looks good, Dave!
I sent an inquiry to CVS flags a few years back about making a nylon Annandale flag. They were willing, but there was a strange problem with the format that they wanted for the graphics file. Was this an issue for you, or did they already have the graphics for the Cinnci flag?
I agree with Mike about the stuff inside the "C". However, I think that it would also look strange if there were nothing there. What it needs is one big, easily recognizable image. Of what, I'm not sure . . .

Re: City Flags - Cincinnati, OH
Peter,
Cincinnati is one of the city flags they have in their standard catalog. They did have to special order it from whomever makes it. As I mentioned the tags say "Americas flag company". Can't say if they did the printing/dye work or not.
What sold me on CVS is their quote was significantly lower than anybody else. That flag was $36 but there Ian a huge demand for that pattern.

Nice one. I want Houston and Dallas flags but I've found that city flags are expensive and hard to find. You can't get one for $5-10 on Ebay. Someday I'll get around to buying those.

Re: City Flags - Cincinnati, OH
Think about it this way, how many people do you know are in the habit of flying their city flag, that goes for businesses as well. Not to mention they aren't publicly available for every city.
You are getting hit with the exact opposite of your "Why are Texas flags less expensive" post. And while eBay can provide you with a great variety of flags for $5-$10 (remember you get what you pay for in terms of quality), they don't want to mess around with patterns that don't sell.
That Cincinnati flag was $36 from CVS Flag (3'x5')
Just for reference they also have Dallas and Houston for about $42 each. That's 3'x5' Solarmax 200D Nylon, whereas the eBay flags are generally printed on low grade poly. (Not to be confused with the GOOD poly that the high wind flags are made from)
For an example of a state flag that is way more expensive, ask Robin about the Oregon flag. There is something unique about it that makes it a lot more expensive to produce.

Re: City Flags - Cincinnati, OH
Hi David. Thanks for the tip on CVS flags. $42 is not too bad for a 3x5 nylon. The local flag store wants about $75 for a 3x5 Houston flag. And I know the OR flag is expensive because the obverse and reverse are different and it has to be double sided. I want my TX flag to be nylon because I fly it frequently. But for one that I will put up less than a few days a year, the poly ones are fine. In fact, they don't need as much wind. The small sizes, such as 2x3' fly MUCH better in poly than nylon.
