Civilian funeral honors
I am a member of an Honor Guard, comprised of Veterans from the VFW, American Legion, AmVets, and DAV.
We had a civilian bugler, and were blessed to have had his services for 14 years. He recently passed away.
We wish to honor him at his funeral, but realize we will not be able to render military rites.
I believe protocol allows us stand at parade rest as his casket is carried to his resting place. Also, the presentation of a pre-folded flag to his widow.
Are there any other honors that could be afforded to this patriot?
Thanks,
Jerry Terando

Re: Civilian funeral honors
hia there - welcome to usa flag site
regarding the flag - anybody may have the flag draped over their casket... that is not just reserved for military
obviously - you would have to buy the flag
you could just find a way to do it so its not the same as a military funeral... ie -have 2 other people fold the flag up that arent from your color guard and then take the flag - which you could then dedicate and present to the widow- but obviously the dedication would be your own words rather than that already set for the military.
