Default Cleaning of a flag

I read that a flag should be cleaned and mended as necessary....

Thank you for your time.

Default Cleaning

Yes, you may machine wash, hand wash or dry clean your flag. The manner you choose is up to you and depends upon the fabric type.

I have a WWII flag that I believe is cotton. This was on my uncle's casket. It was in storage for quite some time and looks to be in good shape except for the stripes that have the a star shape mark/shawdow on them from being folded in storage. What is the recommended cleaning?
Thanks

Default Re: Cleaning of a flag

in the case of an older flag particularly one with a sentimental value- i strongly advise not to machine wash it - or even have it dry cleaned. clean it yourself with warm soapy water (and get all the soap out after too) either do it in the bathtub.. or a shower which is easy way to get it clean. but be careful with it dont be too rough with it either wash it with ur hands or a soft brush should do the trick.
