| Hello all, from Canada. This question is probably for Peter, as he seems to be the font of all knowledge in matters flagian. I am a member of a club which is based in the U.S., but which has members and chapters from the world over. A question has arisen in my mind as to proper flag protocol. Our Canadian flag etiquette rules are very similar - in some respects identical - to U.S. rules. That creates an immediate apparent conflict. If each country's rule says that its national flag is to be displayed a certain way (given place of prominence) when displayed with the flag of the other, both cannot be right. It seems obvious to me that the "When in Rome" rule should apply. In other words, the U.S. rule should apply for U.S. organizations, and the Cdn. rule should apply for Cdn. orgs, or even U.S. or Cdn orgs when displaying the 2 flags together in the other country. Example: If a Cdn oil company displays crossed flags in their U.S. offices, the U.S. flag must be displayed on the viewer's left, with it's shaft over the shaft of the Cdn. flag. Conversely, a U.S. auto co. (there still are some, aren't there? What say you all??

| When in Country A, follow country A's rules. When in Country B, follow country B's rules. When in international waters, go alphabetically.
