Custer Civil War flag goes on display
Mr. Gibney and Monroe’s Steve Alexander, who portrayed Gen. Custer in his dark velvet coat and red-tie uniform, kicked off the busy day by unveiling a new flag loaned to the museum by the Custer family. Encased in a glass showcase, the tattered, swallow-tail red and beige flag was the same flag the general carried into battle in 1864 with his Third Division Cavalry. It will be on display for probably a year before it is returned, Mr. Gibney said.
