What is the protocol for displaying the flag on a uniform? ie left or right sleeve, above breast pocket? which way should it be oriented , for example on left sleeve, field of stars towards wearers front or towds the rear?

My son is in the Boy Scouts of America and his flag that is on his shirt is on the right sleeve with the stars on the back part of his sleeve and the stripes flowing toward his chest. On my VFW coat our flag pin goes on our left front side with the stars towards the inner chest. Hope my info helps a little.
