    Default Disposal of decorative colors

    Hi!

This is my first post. I have three decorative American flags, each less than a foot in height that are for one reason or another, unusable.

Does the same disposal protocol apply for these decorative flags? I need to know before I proceed.

Thank you and God Bless the United States of America!

    Bob

Hello, Bob, welcome to the forum!

The flag code says that a flag should be disposed of in a dignified way. All that means is that it shouldn't be seen lying in a dumpster or being used as a rag. If you fold it up in an opaque bag or box (or maybe an envelope in the case of small flags like yours), it can be disposed of just like any other item.

People tend to focus on the phrase in the flag code saying that the preferable method is by burning. Obviously, that's not always the right thing to do, particuarly with modern synthetic materials.

    Best regards,
