Default Do you wait to retire flag until you can get a new one?

The American flag at my Son's (private) school is weathered by the wind and the ends are extremely frayed. I told them today that they needed to replace it. They told me they would but they just needed to get around to ordering one.
I am wondering if it is better to keep flying the tattered worn flag until someone gets around to ordering a new one, or to not fly one at all.

well it not much a good example to set to these young Americans to have a tatty ol rag of a flag dangling on the flagpole at the front of their school is it?

if i was you id have them take that flag down and hold a flag ceremony for it (retire the flag ) infront of all the kids so they see that its not good to have a flag like that fly infront of the school.
then either leave the flagpole empty or let them borrow a flag to use till they get another one, or you get another one and hand them the tab for it.
