    Default Donor flag???

some of you may remember a flag i got a while i ago with quite severe moth damage (it is a 48 star flag with fringe)

it was suggested to me by peter that a way i could mend it would be to cut off a few inches from th bottom of the flag and use this materia to sew patches over the moth damaged material then sew the fringe back on to the new end

3 weeks ago i got a new flag (new to me but most definatly not new!) this one has moth damage aswell and especailly over the star ection the blue dye has run into the white over that side of the flag and theres a 10 inch tear in the flag from the top going through the star section whch cant be sewn together because the material is fraying so much at the edges
its in quite astate is this poor flag and i have decided its time has come (to be retired)

im wondering what people will thnk if before i retire this flag i use some of its material to mend the 1st flag i mentioned - its the same material and the colors are the same
i kinda feel guilty for cutting this flag for its material to mend another flag but at the same time im kthinking it would be fine becaue the flag is oing to be retired anyway so it might as well help another flag before??

    a flag donor! ?!?!?!?!?????

OK, if you say so . . .

I'm scrambling to get ready for the annual NAVA meeting in Hartford, Connecticut next weekend. I'll be giving a talk about a historic flag mystery that involves 18th century art, American colonial history, the British East India Company, and beer.
