Thanks for those links. I looked through a few of my flag catalogs and I don't see that style of coiled snake appearing prior to WW II. My guess is that it was made for the Bicentennial in the 1970's and wasn't treated very well. Of course, there's no substitute for seeing and touching the flag in person to get a better idea of the age.
