Etiquette to Sing National Anthem
I am a singer, and the local American Legion Post has granted my request to sing the national anthem at our town's Memorial Day ceremony. I am a firefighter in the town and will be marching in uniform during the parade. There will be a podium at the town's war memorial in front of the flag, so each speaker will face the audience with his back to the flag.
I have 2 questions:
When the post commander calls me up to the podium to sing The Star Spangled Banner, do I face the audience or the flag? As a singer, I cannot imagine singing with my back to the audience.
Since I will be in uniform, do I salute while I am singing? It seems awkward, and I can't remember what other singers in uniform do when they sing our national anthem.
Thank you for your help.

Re: Etiquette to Sing National Anthem
when singing to an ausience sing towards them with the flag behind you so the audience can see it...
as for saluting i there would be no need to do this as your the one singing the anthem... just anyone in uniform watching you should salute..
hope this helps
