First 50 Star Flag flown at the US Capitol Building July 4th, 1960
I was wondering if you could perhaps tell me who may be interested in acquiring such a flag. I have THE FIRST 50 Star American Flag to fly over the U.S. State Capitol on July 4th, 1960. Along with the flag is its "Certificate of Authenticity" - basically a note from the AOC stating it is what it is.
The flag has been in my family since it had flown and I am going to get it flown over the U.S. Capitol Building this July 4th for one more time. I am looking for a new home for this flag given the right conditions.
NOTE: This Flag is not to be confused with the first 50 Star Flag ever created, it is the first Flag to fly on the US Capitol Building on the first day the 50 Star Flag was adopted.
Thanks in advance all!
Re: First 50 Star Flag flown at the US Capitol Building July 4th, 1960
The practice of flying flags over the Capitol for members of Congress was well established by the late 1950's and yours may have been one of dozens, if not hundreds, of flags flown that day. I have a flag flown over the Capitol on July 4, 1976, the 200th birthday of the USA and it is only one of more than ten thousand that were similarly hoisted up a pole for a few seconds and then taken down for the next to be raised on that one day. What is the exact wording of the letter from the Architect?
