Default Flag pole placement next to headstone

Is it permissable to place a 22' flag pole on the left side of an old tomb stone that has a brass plate with the names of 14 veterans on it? We plan to align the pole with the back of the tomb stone and 4 feet to the left.

Hello, Albert, and WELCOME to the USA-Flag-Site forums !!!

Happy V-E Day (64th Anniversary) !!!

I saw this posting earlier today but didn't offer my "un-educated" opinion as I thought one of our resident experts would be responding immediately. Unfortunately, I forgot that it's Friday and sometimes people, even expert volunteers, get a little busy taking care of other things.

But, not to worry! I'm sure that a knowledgeable person will respond to your query very soon.

In the meantime, if you don't mind, here is my very "un-educated", but heartfelt, opinion.

It sounds just fine to me. Having the flagpole a little behind and to the right (to the observers' left) would put the Flag in a position of honor.

But..... IF it were up to me (as in, if it were MY gravesite), I'd want that Flag & Flagpole directly behind my gravestone backing me up !!!

But, then again, that's just me...

Hang in there! Someone will be along shortly to help you out!

Again, welcome to our forums !

Robin Hickman
