Flag Rules

I recently purchased a beautiful old looking needle point/wall hanging that is titled "Flag Rules"
It reads this way.

1. Our flag should be treated with respect
2. Never let it touch the ground
3. Never let sun set on it
4. Never use flag to make something else
5. Never draw or sew something on flag
6. Always hang up flag so that the stars are on your left when you look at it
7. Pa said that the red is for courage white for purity and blue for loyalty.

It appears old but it might not be. I have searched on the web to see if anyone might have heard of it. Thanks for any insight to it.

Hello, Mamap -- welcome to the forum!

That sounds like a very interesting piece. If the 1897 date is accurate, it predates the "flag code," and also the Army circulars that the code was based on. Is there any chance that you might be able to take a photo or two of it, and post it here in the forum?
