business violators who fly the flag incorrectly and some times long
after the flag should have been repaired or destroyed. I have attempted
to contact the National VFW, but have had no response. I recently had to
raise the awarness of my local Fire Station and a McDonald's. I have at
least a dozen more on my list of things to do. Let me know if you have
interest and suggestions. Thanks. Michael Keller

Michael Keller,
Thanks for your patriotism and your willingness to spend free time in the pursuit of honoring our nation's national symbol. Usa-flag-site.org is strictly a resource for people to learn about history, etiquette and information about the American flag. While we do not actively participate in what you describe, our site could be used as a valuable tool to educate the very businesses and organizations you speak of.
I imagine that of the people you've spoken to, none were aware of the problems their display involved. You might be able to make a neat little packet of information to distribute to such violators including the U.S. flag code, the usa-flag-site.org website and some businesses or organizations that sell flags so that the businesses will not only realize they need new flag(s) but also become aware of display etiquette--and know just where to get a new flag.
And don't forget to help educate them (or send them here) on how to properly dispose of their flag(s). Thanks.

Re: Flag Violations
If I am correct I do believe that your local American legion has a pamphlet containing flag edict and passenger.

Re: Flag Violations
I too have been spreading Americanism. I recently have been driving around Houston Texas trying to right all the flag wrongs. I work at FMC in houston and one of the flags is displayed on the wall backwards. I have been to human resources and talked to everyone trying to fix it. On 3/22/07 I drove by an elementary school and the flag was being flown upside down. I had to stop and get them to change it. I mean WTF!! This is not the way I was raised. Keep up the good fight men.

Re: Flag Violations
hey women too! i live in england but when visited USA i saw alot of flag violations. not upside down flags thank goodness... but flags that were torn to pieces and still flying on their poles like nobody gives a toss about them. it makes me sad that some people dont care enough to take more pride in the flags they fly. it is not much effort at all to lower it down off the pole and put a new flag up in place is it?
my dad told me yesterday that my bedroom is the 51st state of america! maybe he has a point as my room contains my entire collection of US flags which amounts to 43! im getting one that flew on the capitol too i cant wait to get that... i made a space for it already as im going to get a flag case for it and hang it up on the wall with the certificate and get a print of the men raising the flag at Iwo Jima and put it next to the flag on the wall.

"Raising awareness" is a good way to put it. My sense is that most people are not actually trying to be disrespectful -- they just don't think about it. I find this to be more annoying than people who delibrately burn flags and such. At least the latter care about something, misguided though it may be.
My pet peeve, especially in the wake of 9-11, was with people who put flags on their cars, and left them there even after the flags had become torn, tattered, filthy rags. The funny thing was that most of them probably thought of themselves as patriots.
