Flags Over Joplin


In the wake of an F5 tornado that struck Joplin, Missouri, flags began to appear in the rubble of the homes and businesses that were destroyed by the massive storm. These small shrines spoke to a defiance and strength that outlasts adversity.


Every day, the face of Joplin changes as the remains of homes are loaded onto trucks and carted away, but the spirit and resolution of the people who live there remain undiminished.
