Question Folding A Frayed Flag

A friend of mine asked me if it would be disrespectful to tape a frayed
Flag before you fold it to dispose of it properly?

Since the flag will most likely be burned I do not see the need to secure the frayed ends. Indeed, some consider it preferable to cut the flag into pieces before burning it, but that is not at all necessary. I think the fraying of the flag shows that it has done its job honorably.

Post Re: Folding A Frayed Flag

Thank you for your answer NAVA1974.
However I have never heard of cutting one up before you burn it.

I would like to hear more comments on this if possible.

Thank You!

I heard of one practice where you cut the canton containing the stars away from the red and white stripes. The thought was that it is no longer an "American Flag" and you can burn it. This is not necessary as the flag code clearly states that (respectfully) burning a flag is the preferred means of destroying a flag no longer fit for display.

Post Re: Folding A Frayed Flag

Thank you again!
The reason i asked the question is the person that asked me is a commander
in the Royal Rangers. A boys troop connected to The Assemblies Of God.
They are like the boy scouts.
They were having trouble folding it because it was to frayed.

Thank You
Semper Fi!

One more point I might make is that it is not necessary to fold the flag prior to committing it to the flames. Just place it carefully in the fire.
