Default Half staff for last American WWI veteran.

I got a half staff alert from Gettysburg Flag Works. Here's the first 3 paragraphs.

WASHINGTON, March 11, 2011 - America will pay its respects to its last World War I veteran March 15, as former Army Cpl. Frank Buckles is buried at Arlington National Cemetery.

Buckles -- the last of the more than 5 million Americans who served during World War I and were known as "doughboys" -- died Feb. 22 at his home in West Virginia. He was 110.

He will lie in honor at Arlington's Memorial Amphitheater Chapel from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 15 for the public to pay its last respects. The interment will be at 4 p.m., and the corporal will be buried near the site where General of the Armies John "Black Jack" Pershing, the commander of the American Expeditionary Force, is buried.

And here are a few pics I took after sunset, but couldn't get any wind. I put the flag up tonight so I wouldn't have to do it in the morning while rushing off tho work.

Frank Woodruff Buckles (2/01/1901 to 2/27/2011), who was America's "Last Living Doughboy" of World War I, will be laid to rest with full military honors today in Arlington National Cemetery. His final resting place will be near that of General John J. ("Black Jack") Pershing, the commanding officer of the American Expeditionary Force (A.E.F.) during World War I.

Frank Buckles' Web Site Can Be Found HERE : http://www.FrankBuckles.org/

Today, Tuesday, March 15th, 2011, I am flying three Flags at half-staff in front of my home. The current U.S. Flag (50-Stars), a 48-Star U.S. Flag (the then current Flag that Frank Buckles served under in both WWI & WWII), and the U.S. Army Flag.

Nice arrangement Robin. I want to get a 48 star flag-the non staggered stars look better in my opinion.

    Hey, Wild-Bill !

The 48-Star Flag is my newest eBay acquisition. If I didn't have it, I might have used a "Betsy Ross" 13-Star Flag.

I don't think I've seen too many "staggered" 48-Star Flags. Come to think of it, I haven't seen ANY except for on HERE !!!

Anyway, it rained almost all day around here so all three Flags got a pretty good soaking! Dried them overnight by hanging them up on the garage door opener's overhead mounting brackets.

    Wet again today (of course!)...

    Hey Wild Bill,
Here are some pics of my "staggered" 48-Star flag. I had to do a few repairs to it. Usually I don't like to "repair" my older flags but I wanted to keep the holes and tears from getting larger.
