    Default Hanging the flag sideways?

We have an aquatic facility where we would like to hang the American flag over the pool. (it's the best view in the facility)
What is the etiquette on this? I think it would look best hung from the rivets along the left side of the flag, but the flag would be displayed sideways.
other wise, we would have to create a rivet hole in the right corner of the flag and I don't feel comfortable with that. Any suggestions?

You can follow the United State Flag Code for use in a building:

"When the flag is suspended across a corridor or lobby in a building with only one main entrance, it should be suspended vertically with the union of the flag to the observer’s left upon entering. If the building has more than one main entrance, the flag should be suspended vertically near the center of the corridor or lobby with the union to the north, when entrances are to the east and west or to the east when entrances are to the north and south. If there are entrances in more than two directions, the union should be to the east."

    Hi, Genni!

I think it would look best hung from the rivets along the left side of the flag, but the flag would be displayed sideways.

Just to clarify, correct etiquette is to hang the flag from the grommets, so that the long dimension of the flag is vertical. That's the normal way to display a flag when it is hung from overhead. Since your flag will be visible from both sides, the blue union should face north or east, as explained in the section of the Flag Code that Nick quoted.

    Yes, we know.

But thanks for saying it, anyway.
