Annin is moving to smaller boxes, at first I thought "That can't be the 3x5', the box is too small" Must have been a fairly recent change over as they had a mix of the more traditional bigger boxes and the smaller ones. In the end that will mean they can show more variety of product in less space. So this brings my "historical flags" collection (in outdoor size) to: Betsy Ross, Bennington, Star Spangled Banner and Grand Union. (I also have the Flags of our country desk set that you would find on the end table in my office.) On a related note: Out of curiosity I looked at their Ohio flags just to see if the Annin Nyl Glo's are printed or sewn with embroidered stars, and the Annin's are all printed. I was able to find a swen stripes/embroidered stars Ohio flag on eBay recently and its of the heavier poly (think equivilant to ToughTex). Anybody know how rare a sewn (not printed) Ohio flag is?

| Well, it's a Grand Union flag in my case - the construction is sewn stripes but the design in the canton is printed. If I think about it, I'll go back and look around and see if your theory holds.

| Continuing the celebration of Flag Day running up into the 4th of July. I put the Grand Union flag up this week, then on the 4th, I'll cycle through to the Bennington. Fun Month Week of June 14 - Star Spangled Banner Week of June 21 - Betsy Ross Week of June 28 - Grand Union Week of July 4 - Bennington considering three of those four are cotton flags, I'm suspecting my flag hardware is appreciating the "break" this week. I suppose had I thought it out more (always next year right) I would have put those in chronological order. I wish I had gotten a photo of something I saw a few yers ago, somebody with one of those victorian era homes with the verranda style front porch, had a flag mounted to every column, showing the historical flags set all at once.

Star Spangled Banner: Known to have been sewn in 1813 - the Star Spangled Banner Flag House in Baltimore has the original receipt. Betsy Ross Flag: Unknown to the public until 1870 Grand Union Flag: Publicized and reproduced during the Centennial of 1876 Bennington Flag: 1920's when its existence was first documented by a historian. In any event, enjoy flying your flags!! Nick

| Thanks Nick, Peter, Robin and Star_Spangled_Brit for being such great hosts. Flying the flags is, of course, all part of the fun, and so is collecting some different flags within a modest budget. I just got my first request today! A neighbor asked me if I hadan Ohio flag, they apparently forgot what it looks like. I offered to run upstairs and bring it out, but they were in a hurry. Anyway,my latest few flags HAVE attracted some attention, and thus far all positive. Maybe I should have gotten out my Maple Leaf today. Anyway, since we appear to be a picture loving group, here is the Grand Union I just bought: (Note I almost always use Flickr links so that should not go against the site's bandwith limit) ![]() And for completeness here is the Betsy Ross: ![]()

| . R U SURE that it is a "GENUINE" Betsy Ross type Flag ??? Judging by what I see in the picture the Union is too wide, the Stars are too small, and all of the Stars are "heads UP" instead of "heads OUT". But then, these eye glasses I'm wearing are from an old prescription! Robin Hickman Eugene, Oregon, USA PS. You can always tell your neighbor to check back on March 3rd to see if you're flying the Ohio State Flag ! .

I presume you are comparing the design of Coasterville's 13-star flag to the specification sheet that Congress prepared in 1776, annotated with Betsy Ross Griscom Claypoole's hand written notes recommending that the stars be arranged in a circle and that they only have 5 points? Did George Washington, Robert Morris, or Colonel Ross initial the proposed changes to make them official? I hadn't heard that she also suggested that the stars align on a radius from the center. Happy 4th of July, everybody! Nick

| I recall we had this discussion when I first got the flag. Something about it just looking wrong in an artisitic sense. The flag does not have any tags, imprints, or labels identifying who made it. It did come in a resealable plastic dust pouch. The make is cotton, but it has some distinguishing features in that the grommets are both VERY large. I usually use a spinning pole with the flag rings that come with it, but for this flag I had to resort to cable ties. Interestingly the same oversize grommets, same type embroidery on the stars, and same plastic pouch came with my all sewn/embroidered Ohio flag. It also has no marking anywhere to identify who made it. Both were eBay acquisitions, so who knows who made them. Nick - thanks for figuring out a clever way to put my flags in order. Of COURSE I meant to do it that way. (User gives big grin) Of course the Ohio flag will come out March 3rd. But I promised after the July 4th holiday week ends, I'd put the Ohio flag out for a day or two. Of course if they drop past again, I'd never decline the chance to show it off.

| Earlier in this thread Coasterville posted his new Aninn SSB. Here is the "Pre-Dettra buyout" Aninn SSB compared with a Valley Forge(?) SSB. (the label says Perma Nyl.) IMG_0983r.jpg IMG_0984r.jpg
