Thanks Robin,

Today is, indeed, the 233rd anniversary of that 1777 resolution by the Continental Congress adopting the Stars and Stripes. To see a small sample of the variations of star and stripe arrangements that this resolution spawned (at least over the last 165 years or so), see the following slide show:

Yes, Happy Flag Day to the group.

I was planning on displaying my Betsy Ross and a 15 "Star Spangled Banner" today, but owing to the weather forecast and the fact they are both cotton flags, they will have to wait for a more suitable day. Played it safe and just went with the standard 50 star Nyl GLo today.

Note: If you want it to rain, ask me about flying one of my retro replica cotton flags, every time I even think about raising one, you can count on rain.

Great display, Robin!

Now I know why the Oregon flag just has the beaver on the reverse. If it were a "one-sided" flag like 48 other states, then the text on the reverse would read "NOGERO FO ETATS."

Indeed the situation would be just like your neighbor to the south. The one with the red star of socialism, the Russian Bear, and when the wind blows to the LEFT the slogan "CILBUPER AINROFILAC."

Nick

ps: The "48 other states" you ask? You guess what I mean by that remark.

YES! You got it, Robin.

Washington State is the only state that specifies that the seal must read correctly on both sides of its state flag. That means that George W. looks towards the left, regardless of which way the wind blows.

Nick
