    Talking Hello!

    Hi there,
Glad to be part of this group. I am an administrator for enrollment services for a state university. Our admissions office has just been granted the opportunity to enroll international students. I would like to create a wall of country flags and need direction on how to do that properly. Any suggestions would be great. the flags would be hung off a straight wall at the entrance of our area. From other postings, I now understand that the US flag would go to the far right, with other country flags to the left? Do the flags need to be a certain height from the ceiling? Any instruction you can give me would be great? Also, with countries, is there a protocol order I need to follow (i.e. alphabetical)?
    Thanking you in advance,
    Ms. Sunshine

    Fantastic idea!

Is the goal to post the flags from the nations represented by your students (past and present)?

The basic rules are the US flag, of course goes on its own right, which mean
s the viewers left. Other national flags go in alphabetical order. The other big one to remember is that no international flag (even our own) should be higher than another international flag in such a display. (That indicates control/victory over the lower displayed nation), so I don't think it matters, as a whole, how far the set is from the ceiling, as long as they are all the same height. I also think, but can't be sure, that all flags should be the same size as well.

Another idea you may want to consider if you want to display *all* the nations in a 'space savings' (assuming you have 14' of space) design is the Nations of the World mini flag set.

I have one of those in my collection:

Note: due to the fact I don't have 14' of space, I have the set in two rows.

The flags may be suspended directly from the ceiling, or from poles protruding from the wall near the ceiling. The poles may be horizontal, or angled up towards the ceiling. However, placing the poles horizontally displays the full flag to view and the details are not obscured by folds of the flag.

Yes, alphabetically in the vernacular language (if you are in the USA then order them alpha in English) is appropriate.

    Nick
