    Cool Hello All,

    Hello, Everyone,

I'm Walt, and I live in the good ole' US of A. Arkansas, to be more precise. Robin Hickman actually introduced me to the site.

Robin and I have been showing our patriotism for many years now (admittedly, him more so than me) by posting the American Flag at 100+ participating businesses in the Flags for Patriotism Program.

The Flags Program, as we have come to call it, is a fund-raising program for the Springfield Jaycees (Springfield, OR) in which participating businesses pay the Jaycees to post an American Flag in front of their business on seven (7) holidays each year. The Jaycees provide the Flag, pole, and appropriate stand with which to display the Flag.

Robin started posting the Flags in 1992, if memory serves correctly, and I jumped on the band wagon in 1993 or 1994. We have been doing it ever since. Many of you may be wondering how I can post the Flags in Springfield, OR when I live in Arkansas... Well, I can't. I moved to Arkansas in 2004. I have visited Oregon a few times, and, when I do, I often help Robin with something related to the Flags Program.

I know what we do isn't much -- especially compared to the sacrifice many other people are making in Iraq. And I'm not only referring to the soldiers that are in Iraq... I'm also referring to the families and friends of these soldiers that are at home. To those that are serving, at home and abroad, directly and indirectly, I give you my most heart-felt THANK YOU!!!!!!!! As little as that is, I'm afraid that it is all I have to offer you, as anything else seems MUCH too insignificant.

    Be well.

    Default Re: Hello All,

    Hi, Walt !

Welcome to the USA-Flag-Site.Org Forum !!!

I sure wish you hadn't "bragged on" us like that (it's a little embarrassing, you know?). I tried to include a little bit about the Flags Program in my initial "new mem. intro" but my entire post "disappeared". Maybe I'll "Re-Do" it some time.

For the record, I think the first Flags Posting I participated in was back in 1988. The earliest one that I can remember helping out on for sure was the Memorial Day Flags Posting of May 29, 1989, as that was the day my Mother passed away. And it is, I believe, the only one that I did not help with both the posting of the Flags in the morning and the striking of the Flags in the evening, which I missed.

So, Walt.... what other interests do you have in the United States Flag? How many do you own? Is your interest in the Flag a hobby or more of a profession?

Inquiring (Flag) Minds want to know.....
