Question Hello Excited to be a new member!

    Hello,
As a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Dept. of Missouri, Dudley-Patton-Harvey Unit 349 located in Clarksville, I serve as the Americanism Chairman. As such it is my responsiblity to ensure that our Flag is given the respect it is due and has earned.

I am excited to have found this forum. I have many questions regarding Old Glory.

The main question I need clarification on is:
"Is there a sacred line between the US Flag and an organizations flag that should not be crossed when they are posted at the ends of the delegates tables?" For example, we post the US Flag and our Auxiliary flag, one on each end of a table. There have been times when in haste our members will pass items to the officers, seated at the table, and we have been instructed NOT to pass between "the sacred line". I can not find anything on this. Can someone please clarify this issue.

    Thank you,
    Yvonne

Greetings, Yvonne -- glad to have you aboard!

"Is there a sacred line between the US Flag and an organizations flag that should not be crossed when they are posted at the ends of the delegates tables?"

There's nothing in the flag code that remotely resembles this, and I don't recall anything like it in military regulations. It sounds to me as if it might be a custom that was created by the American Legion itself. They're free to adopt whatever rules they wish, of course.
