Cool Hello from Barb in Florida (and help!)

Hello! I came upon your website searching for an answer to a question my dad has. We are both very proud Americans (both of us are retired Navy, as is my husband), and we proudly display our American Flags! I don't know if this is the right forum to pose my father's question, but here goes. His church (he lives in South Carolina) is celebrating our Independence Day a week early, on 28 June. During a moment of silence during the service, they plan to "march" three flags down the aisle (the U.S. Flag, the SC State Flag, and the Christian Flag), then post the flags. His question to me was in what order should they march (I came up with from left to right, the SC Flag, the U.S Flag then the Christian Flag, in deference to the Christian Flag Code), and then in what order should the flags be posted (I came up with the same order).

Would anyone be willing to help us on this one?

By the way, I did review the Flag Code and the Christian Flag Code, and googled all over the place on flags, with no "correct answer."

Greetings, Barb -- welcome to the forum!

I did review the Flag Code and the Christian Flag Code, and googled all over the place on flags, with no "correct answer."

Unfortunately, there really isn't a correct answer. As you've already discovered, the US flag code and the Christian flag code directly contradict each other. The US flag code says that the US flag should be to its own right of all other flags, while the Christian code says that the Christian flag should be to the right. It's really up to the church authorities and the congregation to decide which one they want to follow.

Obviously, the US flag has precedence over the state flag, and presumably the Christian flag would also. My thought would be that there are two alternatives, depending on which flag code you want to emphasize: US/Christian/SC or Christian/US/SC, in order from right to left. (The flags' right, that is -- when the flags are posted in front of the congregation, the precedence is from left to right from the congregation's point-of-view).

Greetings, Barb (From Florida) !!!

Welcome to the USA-Flag-Site Forums !

I am pretty much in agreement with Peter's answer to your (and your Dad's) question. Either of the two "processions" and "postings" Peter pointed out would work.

Having said that, I do have a question for you, your Dad, the Church's congregation, etc. The answer to which MIGHT have a bearing on which order you choose to show the Flags in the procession and where you choose to place them. [Please note that MY particular preference is easily seen by the way I ask my question. BUT, it's only my opinion.]

QUESTION : WHOSE Independence Day are you celebrating ???

Whichever way you choose, I hope Y'all have a GREAT Independence Day celebration !!!

Thank You for bringing your Flag-related question to our Forums !
