Default Hello from Coasterville

Well, in another thread, somebody suggested I introduce myself.

Well, I'm located in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA and I do have a pretty good interest in the flags of the world, as can be evidenced in the world flag set I discussed in the other forum.

As far as having a collection, other than the miniature world flag set, my collection is mostly flags of a purely decorative nature, or those related to various sports teams.

A few exceptions I have picked up along the way, mostly to display during special events, include:

1) A State of Ohio flag I used during our State's bicentential in 2003.

2) An Olympic flag I acquired in 2004 and I display whenever the Olympics are in session. (Seen grouped with the world flag set, a two for one for you)

3) Cincinnati has a strong Oktoberfest tradition, in their PR pieces they say "second only to the original in Munich" They have a booth that supposely sells souvenirs from the origianl Oktoberfest in Munich, and there I picked up a Bavarian flag (w/ coat of arms) that I display whenever Oktoberfest Zinzinnati is in session.

Oh, and of course I have a national flag or two.
(Flag by Annin and Co. - Nyl-Glo, pole is a "spinning pole" that can rotate to prevent the lag from wrapping itself around the pole.

As well as a flag in my home-offie but I am above the image quota so I'll post that later...

I'll post more later, but I have to run now...

(My other noteworthy US Flag is the one I received when my father died (Army - Korea), thats a 5'x9.5' clotton Valley Forge made flag that I keep tri-folded in a wood and glass case.)

Okay, I have a few more minutes -

Continuing from above, here is the flag here in my home-office:

and here is a nice piece, I took a replica Uncle Sam bank and added a stick flag to it, I think it looks neat:

Another statue I have (but don't have a pic of right now) is one that is a tribute to 9/11 and depicts the firemen raising the flag on the staff above the ruins.

In my actual office at work I have a "Flags of our Country" desk set (made by Annin). Since its at work, I don't have a pic handy but lets see if I can find one in Anin's online catalog.

Ah here is a catalog pic of it:

My other flag related novelty is a pair of semaphore flags I picked up at a flea market where someone was selling various Boy Scout equipment.

Hi Coasterville!!
Definatly warm welcome to USA flag site!

Nice flag collection you have got there! - Thanks for taking the time to post pictures... I really enjoy seeing pictures of flags!

I like you Ohio state flag! - I have one of those too (though mine is a cheap printed version)

thats an interesting flag - the bavarian one... i cant remember seeing that before.. on a bent pole too :P

Oh yes ! Nice US flag flying outside!
I want to display a flag ust like that outside my house... i will one day.... and see if i can get hold of a 'no furl' flag pole! - i really hate to see flags furled around their poles! - I 'freed' a few of them i saw when I was in the USA!

I like your Uncle Sam statue.. So cute!

Right - im off to reply to another post of yours in another section!

We seem to be following each other around.

My Ohio flag is also printed, I have yet to see one swen and embroidered in person. It's an Annin Nyl-Glo, so its name brand (and not cheap in price) Would you beleive during the Ohio Bientennial there was a small market in cheap versions of the Ohio flag made with a regular 3x5 rectangular flag. It was basically an image of the Ohio flag printed on a white rectangular flag. Yes, I cringed when I saw those flying.

Pardon the bent pole - what can I say cheap pole, I really should take care of that. The Bavarian flag gets very popular around here during Oktoberfest.

The spinning pole is really the best thing I have seen for preventing wrap around. Its not perfect and sometimes it needs a little attention.
