    Default Hello from TxDove

Hi, I'm Carla or Dove. I was born and raised in Texas, but now live in Oklahoma. I found found this site while trying to find some type of alert to let me know when to fly the Stars and Stripes at half mast.

This is over a year behind the times, but, hey! I just got here!

There's not a whole lot you can do about getting accurate and timely "Half-Staff" notifications.

A quick Google search reveals that there is a least ONE paid half-staff notification service ($10.00 /year).

There are a number of COMMERCIAL Flag retail/wholesale sites that offer a half-staff notification service :

    http://www.aflag.com/?gclid=COqGy8aB55kCFRFWagodPEZwRw

    http://www.flagsexpress.com/half_staff/half_staff2.html

    http://www.apexflags.com/halfstaff.html

(I am NOT vouching for these three - or any others - I'm just doing a partial listing of some Google search results!)

The "problem" with these "services", as I see it, is that they they only cover National half-staff alerts. Why is that a "problem"?

Well, as I understand it, in the past few years the Governors of the individual States were given the right to "declare" a half-staff event for any suitable "STATE" event.

The "problem" with Ntional ONLY alerts is that they do NOT cover "State" events. With 50 States to "cover", who can blame them for concentrating on only "National" events?

The "solution" may lie with the individual States, or at least those with "Statewide" half-staff alerts. Three come to mind: Arizona, Massechusetts, and Minnesota. So if YOU want to know about upcoming "Half-Staff" events, check to see if your home state offers alerts and sign up for one of the "free" notification services offered by Flag vendors on-line.

    Good Luck !
