"How Many SPAM Members Do We Have?"

The answer is: quite a few. This forum receives *tons* of spam. Fortunately, most of it is filtered out by the Moderation system, and Amanda and I try to deal with the ones that leak through as quickly as possible. I suspected that this one was spam, but let it go by because it was not obviously offensive, and because he/she didn't include a link in the post itself (which would probably have flagged it for moderation anyway). The fact that he/she has not responded to all the follow-up posts makes it pretty certain that it's not "real." We'll delete the thread soon if we don't hear from him/her.

Every so often, we get a spammer who dumps a large number of posts on us at once. In addition to deleting the posts, we also are able to "ban" that email address from posting any more. We don't do this with every single spam post, however, because it is just too time consuming to keep track of.

Howdy !

Judging from the disparity between the number of "Members" and "Active Members", I figure there were quite a few "Spam" members : "Threads: 1,798, Posts: 4,573, Members: 18,936, Active Members: 1,351".

A couple of days ago (April 22nd or 23rd) somebody made a post on each a every thread here. Whew !!!

To "thin the herd", so to speak, maybe remove all those who have been members here for at least 6 months and have NOT made a post? ESPECIALLY if they have "non-sensical" names.

Go easy, though. Remember, I was a member here for about a month BEFORE I made my first posting!

Aren't you glad I did ?
