Hi everyone, I just joined today, as a way of possibly identifying several casket flags that were found by my son in unclaimed storage unit sales.
One flag is on it's own... and the other came with the soldiers ashes in an urn.
Is there any way to identify who these flags belonged to (registration marks, etc) and how do I go about finding the surviving family members? These flags belong with family, you know?

I know that if it were my dad's, I would want to keep it forever...

Welcome to the USA Flag Forum. Internment flags are provided by the VA or Dept of Veteran's Affairs (sometimes through the local Post Office) and typically have the name of the manufacturer and the size printed on the heading. I have never seen one with any information that could link it to any individual except the form or letter from the VA that came with the flag. I do have a casket flag that was sent home by the Department of the Army during World War II. The soldier was buried in France and the Army sent the flag to his parents along with a letter containing information on how to locate the grave. But the flag itself has no I.D. If the flag is framed or in a display case you may have to open it up and see if a letter was included.

Hello, I just joined this site and am hoping someone can guide me on the proper arrangement of flags at my workplace. We have 4 Sixty foot flag poles on both sides of the main entrance to our building and we would like to fly the US and six military flags for Memorial day. This is my thoughts on the proper display:

Nat. Guard - C.G. - A.F. - U.S. - ENTRANCE - U.S. - Army - M.C. - Navy

Last year I put them up with the U.S. flags at the far left and far right with the military flags arranged in the middle from left to right - Army, M.C., Navy, A.F., C.G., Nat. Guard. I was told that with the configuration of my flag poles that the U.S. flags should be to the immediate left and right of the entrance to the building. What are your thoughts on this??????

Nick, thank you for the information. I was hoping to reunite these flags with family members, but it looks like that might be next to impossible.
Do you have any recommendations regarding what can now be done with the flags?

Should they remain folded, (there are no cases or frames) or could they perhaps be respectfully displayed or flown on Memorial Day / Veterans Day etc?
Someone sacrificed their life in order to earn these flags, and I would like to honor that sacrifice in some way.

If you have no desire to keep them as collectibles, then I heartily suggest you donate the flags to a school, church, or some other organization / facility that has an outdoor flagpole tall enough to accommodate them. That flag has a suggested retail value of $135 and such a donation would be welcome by many. And to raise that unknown veteran's flag to fly proudly is the best honor you could give his/her memory. Although their names are lost to us today, they will see their flag flying.
