    Fyi---Eagle Valley High School has suspended one student for wearing and carrying the American flag today, May 5th, 2006. The remainder of students displaying 'American' items had to remove them from their hats and shirts or be suspended---the students wore them to show support for American citizens after the Hispanics have been wearing the Mexican flag on their
    shirts and wearing them on armbands.this is unlawful-and remember .;

    THE WASHINGTON TIMES

    April 8, 2006 DENVER -- Students at Shaw Heights Middle School wore Old Glory on their T-shirts without fear of reprisal yesterday after their principal bowed to community pressure to drop the school's flag ban.

    Principal Myla Shepherd canceled the ban late Thursday night after an outcry from parents, students and state leaders, including Colorado Attorney General John Suthers, who said the school rule violated state law. The Shaw Heights ban prompted an outcry on talk radio and in the state legislature.

    Earlier this week, the state Senate passed a bill that would deny state grants to schools that prohibit respectful displays of the Stars and Stripes. Colorado school drops ban on flags - Nation/Politics - The Washington Times, America's Newspaper

    HM,

    It is a sad day in America when stories like this appear on a regular basis. While political correctness does have a small place in our society, as I see it, many have taken it way too far. Unfortunately it is usually these folks who get the press coverage....

    What exactly is sad about this? Was it

    1. The students wearing Mexican flags,
    2. The other students wearing American flags,
    3. The reaction of the school authorities to ban the flags, or
    4. The public outcry that caused the school authorities to reverse their policy?

    I'm guessing that you mean #3. I don't think that what the authorities did had anything to do with political correctness -- they were trying to be responsible and defuse a tense situation. They over-reacted, and public opinion caused them to change their minds. What is sad about that?

    u almost wonder if their doing it just to get the press coverage.

    They who? The Mexican students, the other students, the administrators, or community members who complained? I sincerely doubt that the administrators were looking for press coverage -- certainly not the kind that they got!
