| My Boy Scout troop just did a flag retirement and now we would like to know what we would put the ashes in to bury them. We are planing to bury them at the base of the flag pole of the National Guard Armory during a drill with the Guard during the weekend of 5/01/2010. So please I need a fast responce

| My opinion: Since you have followed the guidelines of the flag code and respectfully destroyed the flag by burning it, the flag is gone. It was treated properly, with honor, but its ashes have no value - there is no need to treat them with respect. If you want to mix them with the concrete of the flag pole foundation, or mix them with the soil surrounding the base, or mix them with the ashes from a Scout campfire, or simply toss them in the trash is up to you. I would not extend any "sanctity of the flag" to its ashes. You gained the flag's honor when you treated it properly and that's where it should end.
