| While at work today we saw Senator John McCain giving a speech. One of my co-workers noticed there were seven US Flags on each side of the stage. Is there any significance to have 14 flags (7 on each side) on the stage? Is there a reason to have so many? I was in the Boy Scouts for 5 years and the US Air Force for 30 years (worked in protocol and was on the Base Honor Guard) and I don't remember ever seeing a display like this or being asked the question that was posed today. Please advise.

| There is no significance to the number of flags in a massed display. Indeed, some interpret the US Flag Code to discourage such use as it smacks of 'advertising' which is expressly prohibited by the Code. The Flag is supposed to be displayed as the center of attention, not to DRAW attention to some person or thing.
