| After "Googling" it I was able to come up with a set of lyrics for the song, "I Am An American" (1940) and a listing of the song's writers. I AM AN AMERICAN ![]() ~lyric and music by Ira Schuster, Paul Cunningham and Leonard Whiteup (1940)~ On the street, in the home, In a crowd, or alone, Wherever you may be, I am an American, I am, from the heart of me. Rich or poor, young and old, Let the message be told, Wherever you may be, I am an American, I'm proud of my liberty. In the fact'ry, in the mill, Thru each valley, from each hill, Raise your voice and give America a thrill, On the farms, in the schools, Let's have one set of rules, Wherever you may be, I am an American, I am, ev'ry part of me. From Alaska's snowy peaks, To the Southland's muddy creeks, Listen in because America now speaks, America now speaks. On the farms, in the schools, Let's have one set of rules, Wherever you may be, I am an American, I am, ev'ry part of me! I know that this is an OLD thread, but I had to try! Robin Hickman

| I just stumbled across this great site while searching for the composer of this song. I collect 16mm prints of movies and just acquired a print of a "Soundie" of this song. ("Soundies" were the music videos of their day - musical performances lasting about 3 minutes, they were on 16mm film loops designed to be run in coin operated movie "juke boxes" in restaurants, taverns, etc." My film is copyrighted 1941 and is also on 1941 Kodak film stock, so, according to what Robin Hickman has posted above, it would have been made the year after the song was first published. The song is performed by Carolyn Marsh about whom I know very little - just what is listed on the Internet Movie Database. Thank you, Robin, for the composer information! -- Ken, in Wisconsin
